This past weekend, Jermall Charlo fell victim to Carlos Molina’s legal troubles. Molina–the reigning IBF Jr. Middleweight Champion–was forced to back out of their March 8 fight due to various legal issues and arrests.
Charlo was supposed to have been paid $100,000 for the fight, but because the fight was called off neither man earned a paycheck.
According to Charlo’s recent Twitter rant, not only was he not paid, he also seems to have missed out on his opportunity to win the title all together.
Charlo tweeted that Canelo Alvarez seems to have circumvented him and will likely face Carlos Molina in July.
Is it fair? Absolutely not. But, as they say, boxing is a business, and Canelo is Golden Boy‘s future cash cow so setting him up with a very winnable title shot makes dollars and sense for the promotional company.
What would be interesting is if Charlo and Molina actually fought, with Canelo taking on the winner.
Obviously, Charlo would have his hands full with the rough and tough style that Molina brings to the table, but if he were able to win that fight, who wouldn’t want to see Canelo tested against a fellow young gun?
Below are Charlo’s tweets regarding the situation.
Late night.. Talk to me! What y'all think about Canelo Fighting Carlos Molina??
