Jessica McCaskill (6-2, 3 KOs) defeated Erica Farias (26-3, 10 KOs) to become the new WBC Super Lightweight title on Saturday night.
The scorecards were wide in favor of McCaskill 98-92, 97-93, 96-94.
The first four rounds were mostly mostly saw each fighter feeling the other out.
From there on, McCaskill found her groove. Rounds 5 through Round 9 were all McCaskill as she landed punches in bunches on Farias–in particular, the uppercut with her right hand.
McCaskill pushed the pace and fought with pressure and volume, as well as great defense slipping punches while in range.
Farias never seemed comfortable in the ring and didn’t make any adjustments to McCaskill’s gameplan.
Jessica McCaskill is now Chicago’s first female world champion and after the bout she expressed her desire to secure a rematch with undefeated champion, Katie Taylor.
