In the co-main event of Jacobs-Quillin, Jesus Cuellar (28-1, 21 KOs) defended a version of the WBA Featherweight crown with a UD victory agaisnt Jonathan Oquendo (26-5, 16 KOs) at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York..

The 12-round fight was televised on Showtime Championship Boxing in the U.S.

Cuellar, of Argentina, was aggressive throughout the fight and constantly attacked Oquendo with a busy assault while Oquendo, of Puerto Rico, tried desperately to deal with the pressure.

Cuellar scored a knockdown in Round 4, but it was actually a slip because Oquendo’s feet got tangled in between Cuellar’s feet.

Nevertheless, Cuellar continued his offense while Oquendo, who couldn’t seem to establish a jab or any control, tried to offset Cuellar’s incessant pressure.

Cuellar won with scores of 116-111, 116-111, and 120-107.

“First we’re going to rest and then we’re going to determine what’s next,” Cuellar said.

“We’ll have two more fights at featherweight and then move up in weight. Hopefully we get Leo Santa Cruz next.” said Cuellar.

Oquendo was upset, but knew why he lost and expects another shot at a title in the future.

“I needed to start more aggressive but I started boxing. That was my mistake. The head butt made it hard for me to see as well,” said Oquendo.

“I have time to come back and get another world title opportunity. I am disappointed, but I will be back in the gym ready to get back to work soon,” said Oquendo.
