Bantamweight prospect Joshua Greer Jr. (20-1-1, 12 KOs) survived an early knockdown to go on and stop Giovanni Escaner (19-4, 12 KOs) in Hinckley, Minnesota on Friday, February 15 in the eighth round.

Bantamweight prospect Joshua Greer Jr. (20-1-1, 12 KOs) survived an early knockdown to go on and stop Giovanni Escaner (19-4, 12 KOs) in Hinckley, Minnesota on Friday, February 15 in the eighth round.

For Greer Jr., it was his 17th-straight victory. In 2015 it seemed as though he was on the fast track to nowhere as he pulled in back-to-back disappointing finishes. One being a draw and the following being a loss.

Since then he has completely dominated. His fight against Escaner however was not exactly a dominant showing.

Escaner seemed as though he was on his way to pulling off the upset. In the eighth round they both stood in the center of the ring and exchanged shots, but it was a ripping body shot for Greer Jr. that put his man down for the count.

Not only has he won 17-straight fights, but he has stopped 10 of his opponents in that span. His contest against Escaner started a bit tentatively before things began to heat up. Escaner, who was previously only stopped in one other fight, just could not stand up to the body work that Greer Jr. was dishing out.

The power that Greer Jr. possess is a rarity in the Bantamweight division. It is seldom to find his combination of both and speed as he demonstrated shading his opponent.

Very quietly, he has started to make a name for himself in the Bantamweight division. Although it was a solid win tonight don’t expect him to jump into the title picture just yet.

However, if he continues his run of not just winning fights, but dominating them then it will be hard to deny him his shot at gold.
