On Saturday, April 28, 2018, Josesito “The Riverside Rocky” Lopez (36-7, 19 KOs) met Miguel Cruz (17-1, 11 KOs) in El Paso, Texas in the headlining bout on PBC on Fox.

Lopez entered the fight as the rugged veteran warrior, the underdog who has taken on fighters such as Marcos Maidana, Jessie Vargas and Canelo Alvarez, but has since turned into a bit of a journeyman.

Cruz, on the other hand entered the bout as a promising contender looking to build up his resume for a future title bout.

As the fight progressed however, it was increasingly clear that Cruz may have stepped up in competition too early. Lopez dominated the fight through pure aggression.

Lopez vs Cruz

The Riverside Rocky simply outworked his opponent, forcing Cruz to fight on the inside and abandon his game plan. Miguel Cruz’s biggest detractor outside of his lower work rate was his multitude of fouls.

Cruz lost two points throughout the fight due to low blows, which made the bout seem even more one sided than it already was.

“I beat a great undefeated fighter tonight and I was able to out class him,” said Lopez after the fight. “I have some boxing ability clearly. I used my skills tonight. I felt that I dominated the pace, out worked him and I never let him do anything that hurt me.”

Do you think Lopez deserves another title shot if he continues to impress like this? Do you think Miguel Cruz can bounce back into the limelight?
