Marcus Browne Earns Controversial Victory Over Radivoje Kalajdzic

Marcus Browne and Radivoje Kalajdzic may not have made any noise in the lead-up to their fight, but from the first bell it was clear that both undefeated contenders held deep contempt for one another.

Both fighters came out swinging for the fences from the start of the first round. In the middle of the first round, Browne was credited with a knockdown, but upon replay it was revealed to be a slip followed up by an illegal blow while Kalajdzic was on the canvas.

From that point on, both men held little regard for each other or the rules of boxing as the remaining rounds had the look of a street fight rather than a sanctioned bout.

In the third round, Browne landed a series of blows that wobbled Kalajdzic, but failed to legitimately hurt his opponent.

Kalajdzic followed up in the fourth by slugging it out with Browne, buckling his knees with shots to the chin on the inside.

But by the sixth, Browne’s game plan fell apart as he was dropped hard by a perfect straight right hand that had him dazed and stumbling for the remainder of the round. Browne was unable to find his footing and spent much of the last two rounds bumrushing Kalajdzic into a clinch.

Kaladzjic—seemingly fed up with the incessant clinching without reprimand from the referee—shoved Browne to the canvas multiple times before the final bell rang.

When the final cards were read, Browne was declared the victor by split decision. There was a significant outcry with the crowd feeling that Kalajdzic had been robbed by a hometown decision that favored Browne.
