On July 9, 2016, Mario Barrios scored a 12-round unanimous decision victory against Devis Boschiero at the Sun National Bank Center in Trenton, New Jersey.

The Super Featherweight fight headlined a PBC on ESPN card.

Barrios, a rising Super Featherweight prospect of San Antonio, Texas, used his huge height and reach advantage to keep Boschiero at a distance for the entire fight, which was uneventful to say the least.

“It was pretty frustrating. I came out to put on a show for the fans, and unfortunately it seemed like my opponent was just trying to survive,” said Barrios.

Barrios, 21, was in control of the entire fight, and he was only briefly challenged in Round 12, when Boschiero finally decided to become a little aggressive.

However, this aggression caused Boschiero to be dropped in that same round.

“I can try to press the fight all I want, but if he doesn’t want to fight it’s not going to happen,” said Barrios.

Boschiero, a 34-year-old former title challenger from Italy, did nothing more most of the fight, causing the New Jersey fans to boo the two fighters in every round.

“Initially my game plan was to work the jab and see what would open (Boschiero) up. But as the rounds went by he didn’t seem like he was going to come at me. He just didn’t seem to want any action,” said Barrios after the fight.

All judges scored the fight 120-107 for Barrios.

In the co-main event, Eddie Ramirez scored a 10-round unanimous decision victory against Jessie Roman in a Welterweight fight.

Though he was susceptible to left hooks all night, Ramirez controlled the fight with the jab, using it to land quick combinations on Roman.

The judges scored the fight 99-91, 98-92, and 99-91for Ramirez.
