Mayweather vs. McGregor: What You Need to Know About Glove Size, Referee and Judges

The Nevada Athletic Commission has announced some major details for the upcoming August 26 clash at T-Mobile Arena between Floyd Mayweather and Conor McGregor.

World Boxing Hall of Fame referee Robert Byrd has been selected as the third man in the ring for Mayweather vs. McGregor.

The NAC also announced that the three judges will be Burt Clements, Dave Moretti and Guido Cavalleri. Clements and Moretti are both from the United States of America, while Cavalleri is from Italy.

One of McGregor’s coaches, Owen Roddy, does not seem to think that the officials will matter much (per MMA Fighting).

“There are no issues. People are talking about the referee like it’s an issue and people are talking about the size of the gloves like it’s an issue. All of that stuff is irrelevant,” said Roddy.

The glove size that Mayweather and McGregor will use will be eight ounces–but brands weren’t specified by the NAC according to Boxing Scene.

Many fight fans believe that the eight ounce gloves will give McGregor, who is seen as the bigger puncher, the edge he needs to knock Mayweather out.

But Roddy sees the gloves, like the officials, as meaningless details.

“People think Conor’s going to be going in there throwing superman punches, spinning back fists and f**kin’ cartwheel punches – I don’t even know what they are,” said Roddy. “At the end of the day, when they both get in there, people are going to see that all of this stuff makes no difference at all.”
