Media day at Mendez Boxing Gym in NYC for the upcoming bout between Australian, Daniel “Real Deal” Geale (29-1, 15KO’s) and Englishman, Darren “Dazzling” Barker (25-1, 16KO’s).

The two men will clash for Geale’s IBF Middleweight Championship Belt at Revel Hotel and Casino in Atlantic City, NJ on Saturday August 17.

First up was Geale, who looks poised and ready to take America by storm as this is his first fight on U.S. soil.

In his off time, Geale spends his days in the gym, training young fighters at Grange Old School Boxing. He takes them to tournaments and works their corner as well.

He expressed that he does look at Barker as a legit opponent, but doesn’t see a way he could be beaten by him and may already be looking past him to either Gennady Golovkin or Sergio Martinez—if he comes back before the spring of 2014.

There are also talks of a possible rematch with Felix Sturm, but no talks of facing either Brooklyn’s Curtis Stevens or Peter Quillin as many people have believed.

Geale also stated that Golovkin is the bigger fight right now, but he is mostly hype and hasn’t faced tough opponents.  No matter who Geale faces next, there should be no looking past Barker.

Barker, who is readying himself for a second title shot after suffering his only loss with an 11th Round KO loss to Argentinian Sergio Martinez, stated “I walked into the Martinez fight truly thinking I could beat him, but not feeling in my heart I could beat him”.

Barker has refocused his life and truly believes he is a top level, world class fighter, which he promised to show Saturday night.

At the end of the day, both fighters promised they will put on one hell of a show and that the U.S. audience will remember their name.

Fight fans should be excited for the “Beatdown on the Boardwalk” this Saturday. The fight card will be televised on HBO’s Boxing after Dark, beginning at 9:45pm, EST.
