This Saturday, Top Rank travels to The Theater at Madison Square Garden in New York City. Mike “Yes Indeed” Reed (14-0, 8 KOs) is a name you’ll see on the undercard live stream for Nicholas Walters vs. Miguel Marriaga. Reed has been there before, but this time he says it will be different.

Reed has had an impressive career to date, but 2015 has been exceptionally good to him. This is his third fight this year, with his last two fights ending in quick second-round knockouts. Without going through any tough battles this year so far, Reed has been able to stay busy, and he says he likes it this way.

“I enjoy the busy schedule. I’m not a fan of all the training, for me, fighting is the fun part. But it never lets me get out of shape”.

The timing for this fight couldn’t be any better, after two second round knockouts, Reed has the chance to prove himself again to the HBO team and capture his 15th win.

“This fight is all about redemption,” says Reed. “The last time HBO saw me, I didn’t look my best, this time they’re going to be impressed. I’m ready to move up to the big screen.”

Reed’s last fight on an HBO undercard was in 2014 in Omaha for the Terence Crawford vs. Ray Beltran bout. Reed faced Oscar Valenzuela and even though he won by unanimous decision, Reed was not satisfied with his victory.

“I could have taken him out, I should have pressured him more, and there were plenty of opportunities. I just made the fight harder on myself then I should have.”

Reed also has his eye on TruTV, the prime time TV broadcast that Top Rank has put together in order to keep up with the wave of boxing on public television.

All this motivation has changed up Reed’s training camps. After winning a few fights by decision, Reed says the knockouts are more satisfying, and that’s something he’s working very hard to continue.

Reed faces Luis Gonzalez (11-1, 6 KOs) this Saturday, in what will be his first fight in New York.

“Fighting on this card, on the weekend of the Puerto Rican parade is an honor. New York is gonna be alive, and I hope to gain some new fans after this weekend.”

Reed’s fighting style is very fan friendly, along with his personality. A fighter who wants to face the top opposition in his division is a guy to watch out for.

“I’m a big fan of Terence Crawford, but if that’s someone I have to face in the future so be it. I just want to fight, and fight the best.”

With that mindset and hunger, it’s no doubt Reed will be the guy that goes from your laptop to your TV screens very soon.
