Friday, April 18, 2014, Keystone Boxing presented an exciting six-fight card at Rosecroft Raceway in Fort Washington, MD.

The night was highlighted by the six-round main event featuring southpaw Mike “Yes Indeed” Reed (8-0, 5 KOs) vs. Regino Canales (6-4, 2 KOs) in a Jr. Welterweight contest.

According to Keystone Boxing, Canales holds wins over fighters with records of 9-0, 8-1 and 6-1, so this fight was supposed to be a considerable step up in competition for Reed.

Reed—the hometown fighter from Waldorf, MD—started Round 1 working behind the jab and feeling out his taller opponent.

By the time the first minute had passed it looked as though Reed had found his groove, putting his combinations together nicely.

Canales—from Rio Piedras, Puerto Rico—was tentative and allowed Reed to back him up against the ropes for most of the first stanza.

The little offense that Canales did muster up was slipped and blocked by the elusive Reed.

Canales came out a little more aggressive in Round 2 looking to push Reed to the ropes.

Canales tried his luck at throwing everything he had in his arsenal, but nothing seemed to bother Reed, even when the young undefeated fighter was backed against the ropes.

It didn’t take long for Reed to turn the tables on Canales and land hard combinations while the Puerto Rican’s back laid on the ropes.

Reed maintained his lead foot outside of the orthodox Canales’ lead foot and “Yes Indeed” was able to effectively turn his man whenever he wanted to.

In Round 3, Reed continued to put together accurate combinations together, especially to the body, as Canales looked for breathing room, even resorting to a late low blow.

Round 4 began with Canales circling against the ropes, which was obviously a result of Reed’s diligent body work.

Reed stalked until he closed the gap and landed a barrage of punches. Canales finally took a knee in the corner from the accumulation of punches.

Canales got up and beat the count, but Reed jumped right back on him and mercilessly beat him from one side of the ring to the other for the remainder of the round.

The corner was looking hard at stopping the fight in Round 4, but ultimately they allowed their man to take an unnecessary amount of punishment.

The bout has halted in the corner at the end of the fourth giving Reed an impressive TKO victory. The undefeated Jr. Welterweight prospect Reed improves to 9-0, 6 KOs.

Regino Canales was taken out on a stretcher and remains hospitalized. We will update you on his condition once we know.
