Premier Boxing Champions will add what should be another all-action affair to its showcase on Saturday, June 20 when “Showtime” Shawn Porter squares off against Adrien “The Problem” Broner at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

Although the match is being fought at a catch weight of 144 pounds, Broner will look to use this bout as a stepping stone to establish himself in the talent-filled welterweight division.

Porter, with his blitzkrieg style, will aim to solve “The Problem,” and continue forging his path to the top of the welterweight mountain. The following are three keys to victory for Shawn Porter.

1. Big Power Shots

Kell Brook vs Shawn Porter

Shawn Porter’s chin on the chest, steamrolling attack could very well be the difference maker in his matchup with Adrien Broner.

He should look to immediately smother Broner with a barrage of power shots that would connect through Broner’s Mayweather-like shoulder roll defense.

Marcos Maidana used a similar strategy and was able to repeatedly pound Broner with his sledgehammer power shots, and the result was a one sided beatdown.

Every round that Maidana could get inside and connect with power, it seemed as though Broner would automatically go into survival mode and stop exchanging, thus lowering his punch output which allowed Maidana to secure the round.

The same can be done again on June 20, if Porter is able overwhelm Broner with an all assault of vicious power shots.

2. Stay in Control

Controlling the action for the duration of the fight is another thing Shawn Porter must do to secure a win against Adrien Broner. Porter needs to perfectly blend his raging bull attack, and his footwork in order for this to work.

He doesn’t need to allow Broner to grab and hold, which could slow down his aggressive style. The best way to accomplish this is to blast forward and launch an attack, and then step back and start turning him to look for another opening.

Broner likes to stand flat footed when launching his attack, this can be a huge advantage for Porter if he controls the tempo for the entire bout.

3. Make Adjustments

This responsibility will fall on Shawn Porter and his corner. Porter had success for the first half of his fight against Kell Brook, but it was Brook that was able to adjust and cruise for the second half as he was able to land punches at range, and hold Porter on the inside which slowed down his attack.

Adrien Broner is definitely not as elite as Brook, but if Broner develops the routine of using his elbow to push Porter and repeatedly hold him on the inside he will make rounds difficult for Porter and potentially easier to secure a victory.

Making adjustments if and when necessary will allow Porter to press forward and leave the ring Saturday as the new king of Ohio.
