Canelo Alvarez is 66 fights in to what has been a glittering professional career.
The 34-year-old from Guadalajara, Mexico has been one of the best fighters on the planet over the last decade, culminating in him picking up world titles across four weight classes as well as the undisputed championship at 168lbs.
Canelo is bidding to make even more history for himself when he locks horns with IBF super middleweight champion William Scull in Riyadh on May 3, in an attempt to become the first fighter in boxing history to win the undisputed super middleweight champion on more than one occasion.
Of all the great victories that he has had throughout his tenure, Canelo has often spoke of one in particular which saw him land the greatest shot of his entire career.
In an interview with Donald McRae, Canelo discussed his 2021 showdown with Billy Joe Saunders, which came to an abrupt conclusion after the Mexican broke Saunders’ eye socket in the eighth round.
“It was amazing. The people, the fight, everything. And that uppercut is one of the best punches I’ve ever thrown. I knew the fight was over as soon as it landed because his eye was really bad.”
Saunders has not fought since that defeat to Canelo, which took place at the AT&T Stadium in Texas back in May 2021.
The 35-year-old from Hertfordshire lost his WBO super middleweight title to the Mexican icon that night, with Canelo needing just 6-months before he would make history by defeating Caleb Plant to become the first undisputed super middleweight champion of the ‘four belt era’ in November 2021.
