Canelo Alvarez has consistently proved himself as one of the best fighters on the planet in the last decade.

The 34-year-old from Guadalajara, Mexico made his professional debut when he was just 15-years-old back in 2005. He has gone on to have over 60 fights since then, winning world titles in four weight divisions as well as the undisputed championship at super middleweight.

The Mexican superstar has picked up a number of career defining victories during his tenure against the likes of Gennady Golovkin, Miguel Cotto and Sergey Kovalev to name just a few. Canelo currently reigns as the unified WBC, WBA and WBO super middleweight champion, as he gears up to face IBF champion William Scull in Riyadh on May 3 in what is an opportunity to become a two-time undisputed champion at 168lbs.

Despite his incredible success, the 34-year-old has spoken out and admitted the several fighters who he believes are actually better than him.

In a feature with DAZN, Canelo conceded to the fact that the two fighters who have beaten him during his career, Floyd Mayweather and Dmitry Bivol, were better than him overall when he fought them in 2013 and 2022 respectively, with both fighthers remaining the only two who have added blemishes to his outstanding professional record.

Canelo also admitted that heavyweight icon Muhammad Ali was a better fighter than him, however the Mexican star did not seem to believe that the likes of Bernard Hopkins, Marvin Hagler and Julio Cesar Chavez were any better than him in terms of technical ability.

The 34-year-old is set to face fellow pound-for-pound star Terence ‘Bud’ Crawford later on in 2025, so long as he comes through his bout with Scull unscathed. The mega-fight against ‘Bud’ was confirmed earlier this year, with many fans and pundits expressing their excitement at the prospect of the pound-for-pound stars facing off against one another.
