Canelo Alvarez Has Named The One Fighter He Wants To Face: “Of Course I Would Love To”

Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez is universally recognised as one of the best fighters in the sport.

The reigning unified super middleweight champion has enjoyed a glittering career since turning professional at just 15-years-old in 2005.

In recent months, Alvarez has been linked with a potential dream fight against fellow pound-for-pound superstar Terence Crawford, with negotiations between both fighters camps reportedly taking place.

Another fighter who has targeted a showdown with the Mexican star is current WBC ‘interim’ light heavyweight champion David Benavidez. The 28-year-old former two-time super middleweight champion has made his feelings clear about securing a fight with Canelo on multiple occasions.

Despite reports that Alvarez has ‘ducked’ a showdown against ‘The Mexican Monster’, he has proved these claims to be false in recent months after confirming his desire to make the fight happen, albeit at an asking price of $200 million.

The 34-year-old has recently spoken to DAZN Boxing, and has named Floyd Mayweather Jr as one man he would like to fight next, although he has admitted he can’t see it ever happening.

“Yes, of course [I would like to fight Mayweather again]. I would love the opportunity to get revenge.

Obviously we know it’s not going to happen but yes, I would love to get rid of that little thorn.”

Canelo faced Mayweather Jr in September 2013, where he suffered the first defeat of his career at the hands of the former pound-for-pound superstar. The Mexican icon has admitted on more than one occasion that he would love the opportunity to avenge this defeat, despite it being highly unlikely at this stage,

Mayweather retired from professional boxing shortly after stopping MMA legend Conor McGregor in the tenth round of their bout in August 2017.
