Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez has delivered his verdict on the upcoming rematch between Artur Beterbiev and Dmitry Bivol.

The light heavyweight superstars are gearing up to lock horns for the second time on February 22 as they contest the undisputed light heavyweight championship once again.

The first showdown, back in October, was one of the most highly anticipated fights in recent times. It was Beterbiev who got the nod in a cagey 12-round battle, as he became the first undisputed light heavyweight champion of the ‘four belt era’.

Speaking to Fight Hub TV, unified super middleweight champion Canelo, who stepped up to challenge Bivol back in 2022, shared his thoughts on the rematch as he gave plaudits to both men.

“It’s going to be a really good fight again. Both are great fighters.”

The Mexican superstar faced Bivol for his WBA light heavyweight crown three years ago, but struggled with the size and tempo of the Russian, as Bivol picked up a unanimous decision to retain his title and hand Canelo the second defeat of his career.

When asked if he would be interested in potentially stepping up to 175lbs once again if the opportunity was presented to him, the 34-year-old said this.

“Maybe I will.”

Canelo has been linked with a fight with reigning WBC ‘interim’ light heavyweight champion David Benavidez, who was mandatory to the Mexican icon’s WBC title at 168lbs for a period of time.

Benavidez opted to a move up to light heavyweight after a bout with Canelo could not be made. He is now due to face David Morrell in an intriguing contest in Las Vegas next month.
