Canelo Didn’t Think Twice When Asked Who Was Tougher Between Floyd Mayweather And Dmitry Bviol

Canelo Alvarez is one of the most decorated fighters in boxing.

The 34-year-old from Guadalajara, Mexico has won world titles in four weight divisions, as well as the undisputed super middleweight championship, which he won in November 2021 and held for three years, defending against the likes of Gennady Golovkin, Jermell Charlo and Jaime Munguia.

Canelo still holds three of the four world titles at 168lbs, making the most recent successful defence of his WBC, WBA and WBO titles against the previously undefeated Edgar Berlanga Jr on September 14 in Las Vegas.

The Mexican icon has lost just twice in his 66 fight career, suffering defeats to Floyd Mayweather Jr and Dmitry Bivol in 2013 and 2022 respectively.

Speaking to FightHub TV, Canelo was asked to reveal which bout was the most difficult between Mayweather and Bivol, where he claimed the size of the Russian light heavyweight star made the difference.

“I think both are similar, just Bivol is bigger so I think Bivol.”

The 34-year-old stepped up to 175lbs for the second time to face Bivol in May 2022, after previously challenging Sergey Kovalev for the WBO light heavyweight title where he got the stoppage victory over ‘Krusher’ in the eleventh round of their battle in 2019.

Despite the best efforts of Canelo, the size, strength and work rate of Bivol proved to be too much for the naturally smaller man, as he became only the second fighter to defeat the Mexican superstar in a unanimous points victory.

The 34-year-old Russian is preparing to rematch Artur Beterbiev on February 22, after he fell short to his 175lb rival in October. Bivol will be keen on getting revenge over Beterbiev, as he looks to become the undisputed heavyweight champion at the second time of asking.
