Canelo Names The Only Fighter Who Hit Him Harder Than Gennady Golovkin: “His Power Was Incredible”

Canelo Alvarez is universally recognised as one of the greatest fighters on the planet.

The 34-year-old has achieved incredible things since his professional debut when he was just 15-years-old, claiming the undisputed super middleweight title in 2021. The Mexican icon has also won world titles in four weight divisions, making him one of the most decorated fighters in boxing history.

The resume of Canelo is one to behold, facing fighters such as Gennady Golovkin, Dmitry Bivol, Miguel Cotto and Floyd Mayweather during his near 20-year career.

Despite facing some monstrous punchers and naturally bigger men than him during his tenure, Alvarez has revealed the biggest puncher he faced was one he clashed with when he campaigned at light middleweight.

In a video with FightHype, he denied the claims than ‘GGG’ was the heaviest puncher he’s faced, citing former rival James Kirkland as the biggest hitter of them all.

“I don’t care. If you want something in life you need risk a little bit, right? No [Golovkin is not the hardest puncher I’ve fought.] Kirkland. It was unbelievable. I feel the punches right here, like oh my god.

Kirkland faced Canelo in May of 2015, starting the fight well before he was eventually dropped in the first round. The ‘Mandingo Warrior’ continued to take the fight to the Mexican into the second but was then brutally knocked out with a devastating right uppercut in the third round.

After retaining his unified super middleweight titles with a comprehensive win over Edgar Berlanga in September, Canelo is now set to return to the ring in the early stages of 2025 with a potential mega fight with Terence Crawford being discussed between their respective teams.
