Canelo Agrees To Fight David Benavidez Under One Condition: “Let’s Do It Tomorrow”

Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez has been linked with a clash against David Benavidez for quite some time now.

The unified super middleweight champion has beaten some of the greatest fighters of a generation, but looks to be quite apprehensive when it comes to accepting a challenge from ‘The Mexican Monster’, who currently holds the WBC ‘interim’ light heavyweight title.

Benavidez is a two-time super middleweight champion, having recently made the move up to 175lbs. The 28-year-old has also revealed his interest in a move up to cruiserweight, targeting a showdown with WBA and WBO champion Gilberto ‘Zurdo’ Ramirez.

Speaking to FightHub TV, ‘Canelo’ insisted he would take a fight against Benavidez at the drop of a hat, as long as the money made sense for the pound for pound star.

“Maybe it’s one of the biggest fights, who knows. But you know, he brings nothing to he table for me, he just brings 25lbs extra on fight night.

But if a promoter, not him because he’s not in a position to offer me any money, but if a promoter who I work with, if they offer me $150m-$200m, I’ll fight him tomorrow. That’s the only reason I fight with him, the only thing he brings to the table is 25 more pounds.

No pressure to make the fight, I don’t need to fight anybody, I don’t need to prove anything to anybody because I remember when this happened with Golovkin.”

The Mexican superstar has also been linked with a mega fight against Terence Crawford, with Turki Alalshikh showing serious interest in getting the fight finalised for the first half of 2025.
