Mike Tyson and Jake Paul faced off in a controversial showdown in Texas last month.

It was the first professional ring appearance for the former world heavyweight champion since retiring shortly after suffering defeat to Kevin McBride 19 years ago.

For the 27 year old YouTube sensation, it was his 11th professional win out of 12 contests, as he outpointed ‘Iron’ Mike over eight rounds at the AT&T Stadium in Arlington. It was evident to fans around the world that the Tyson we saw in the ring that night was more than a shadow of his former self, as he was seen to be physically exhausted at the sound of the final bell.

In the days following the controversy of Tyson vs Paul, some of boxing’s most prominent figures felt that the fight itself was scripted, and that the outcome of the match up was decided long before the first bell was heard.

Former three weight world champion James Toney was one of those who spoke out about the claims that the fight was indeed scripted.

Speaking to Wise Nuts, Toney addresses the rumours in his words, claiming ‘Iron’ Mike disrespected boxing following his clash with Paul – saying he ‘knew’ it was rigged as soon as Tyson came to the ring.

“They had some kind of deal. [I knew] as soon as he came in the ring.

F**k Jake Paul, he sucks, he’s garbage. He’s destroying the sport of boxing. I love boxing, it’s my world. I love Mike, but he disrespected the sport by doing what they did.”

Tyson has now claimed he will go back into retirement from boxing, after he initially reported he would fight once again. The 58 year old’s retirement decision has been met with delight by fans around the world.
