Jaron ‘Boots’ Ennis could be set to finally get his opportunity to unify the world welterweight titles in 2025.

The reigning IBF welterweight champion has recently expressed his desire to unify the division, as he targets the three remaining title holders at 147lbs.

Ennis’ wish could be about to come true, as Eddie Hearn revealed that negotiations for a showdown with WBA welterweight champion Eimantas Stanionis are reportedly underway, and a deal is looking ‘hopeful’.

“I’m hopeful we get it over the line, we’ll see.”

WBA king Stanionis has claimed he would get the better of his welterweight rival in what would be a ‘legacy defining’ showdown.

“He’s fast, powerful, and skilled, but I believe in myself and my ability to outlast anyone in the ring. The fans have been asking for this fight, and I want to make it a reality.

Unification fights like this define legacies.”

Stanionis is undefeated as a professional, winning all fifteen of his outings. He is recognised as one of the hardest hitting fighters in the 147lb division, with 9 of his victories coming inside the distance.

The 30-year-old from Lithuania defeated Radzhab Butaev to claim the WBA crown back in April 2022, which was followed up with his first title defence last May when he outpointed Gabriel Maestre in Las Vegas.

‘Boots’ has reiterated his intention to unify the division at all costs, prioritising this over a potential showdown with WBA light middleweight Vergil Ortiz, who is now set to face Israil Madrimov in February.
