Terence Crawford is arguably the current best fighter on the planet.
After achieving undisputed status at welterweight in July 2023 when he blasted out Errol Spence Jr inside 9 rounds, he moved up to light middleweight and outpointed Israil Madrimov in August to claim the WBA title and become a four division world champion, adding to the list of his incredible achievements.
After winning a version of the world championship in a fourth weight class, the 37 year old has been linked with a potential mega fight against Mexican icon Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez, with Turki Alalshikh expressing his desire to get this fight over the line on multiple occasions.
Negotiations between the pound for pound stars camps have reportedly taken place, with a fight yet to be agreed but likely to happen around May 2025.
One man who is also targeting a showdown against Crawford is reigning WBO light welterweight champion Teofimo Lopez, who has expressed his interest in a fight with ‘Bud’.
Speaking to ESNEWS, ‘The Takeover’ claims it would take just nine rounds for him to break down and stop the four weight world champion.
“Yeah I think [we’ll make the fight]. I’d say by 9 [rounds to stop him]. It’s my favourite number and a guy like him, you gotta break him down, you gotta break him down, you can’t just take him out.”
Lopez has suffered defeat just once since turning pro, when he lost his unified lightweight titles to George Kambosos Jr in November 2021.
He has bounced back from that maiden career loss with five consecutive victories, with wins against Sandor Martin, Jamaine Ortiz and Josh Taylor along the way.
