Terence Crawford and Jaron ‘Boots’ Ennis have both been targeted by one of the highest rated fighters in the sport.
Ennis is the reigning IBF welterweight champion, after he was elevated from ‘interim; status in the Summer of 2023. He has made back-to-back defences of his crown, stopping David Avanesyan which was followed up with a routine points win over Karen Chukhadzhian in November.
For Crawford, 2024 was another successful year for the 37-year-old from Omaha, Nebraska. ‘Bud’ clinched a world title in a fourth division when he dethroned WBA light middleweight champion Israil Madrimov in August, adding this to the long list of his career accomplishments.
One man who has emerged as a potential opponent for both Ennis and Crawford is the highly rated WBC ‘interim’ champion at 154lbs, Vergil Ortiz Jr.
Speaking to Pro Boxing Fans, Ortiz revealed his desire to face both men and add the first blemish to their respective unbeaten records.
“Honestly, I want them both. I really do. I think those are some great fights to be made and, like I said, I don’t want to fight people cause I have beef with them, I think they’re good fighters.
I would like to prove myself and I know the fans want those fights. It kind of makes me that much more motivated and excited to be in those kind of fights.”
Ortiz has cemented himself as a serious contender at 154lbs, has won all 22 of his professional outings, securing 21 knockout victories in the process.
The 26-year-old returns to the ring on February 22 where he makes the second defence of his title against Israil Madrimov in Riyadh.
