David Avanesyan has shared the ring with both Terence Crawford and Jaron ‘Boots’ Ennis.

Avanesyan, the former WBA (Regular) welterweight title holder, challenged Crawford for the WBO welterweight title in December 2022, suffering a sixth round stoppage at the hands of ‘Bud’ in the champion’s home town of Omaha, Nebraska.

Fast forward to July 2024, ‘Ava’ challenged Ennis in a bid to dethrone ‘Boots’ of his IBF welterweight title. It was ‘Boots’ who went one better than his fellow American, blasting Avanesyan out in the fifth round at the Wells Fargo Center, with ‘Ava’ once again falling short in the champions hometown.

Both Crawford and Ennis remain undefeated as professionals, with Crawford recently moving up to 154lbs to dethrone Israil Madrimov of his WBA crown. ‘Boots’ made the most recent defence of his IBF title back in November, defeating Karen Chukhadzhian via unanimous decision for the second time.

With experience of being involved in contests with both, Avanesyan’s coach Carl Greaves spoke to Boxing Scene where he broke down the abilities of Crawford and Ennis.

“Boots Ennis is the more busy, more active fighter in my opinion. He’s a bit younger and a bit fresher. On the other hand, Crawford is very, very patient. His timing is very good and he plans just the right attacks at just the right times whereas Ennis was more busy.”

Greaves then revealed that his fighter had told him that Crawford is the harder hitter of that two.

“I think that Crawford is a heavier handed fighter.

I was talking to David and he said that Crawford hits harder but that ‘Boots’ Ennis was a bit sharper and busier.”

‘Bud’ is rumoured to be negotiating a dream fight with Mexican superstar Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez, with Ennis aiming to unify the welterweight division if the opportunities arise in 2025.
