Gervonta Davis could make a shock retirement from boxing at the end of 2025.
The 30-year-old from Baltimore, Maryland has won all 30 of his professional contests, claiming 28 stoppage victories along the way as well as world titles in three weight divisions.
‘Tank’ currently holds the WBA lightweight championship, but revealed towards the end of last year that he plans to make a surprise exit from the sport, claiming he is ‘tired of boxing’ and intends to spend more time with his family, which is has been unable to do in recent years.
Speaking in a media scrum, the 30-year-old outlined his intentions to secure fights against Vasyl Lomachenko, Ryan Garcia and Devin Haney before he finally draws the curtain on his glittering career.
“Those fights can still happen. After this year, I’m gone.”
Davis then lashed out on Shakur Stevenson, who has been linked with a fight against ‘Tank’ over the last couple of years. The 30-year-old claims Stevenson has ‘done nothing’ in the sport.
“What has Shakur done in the sport? He has done nothing. The young ones are looking more better than him. Keyshawn. He’s looking way more better than him.
I keep screaming his name. He [Shakur] hasn’t done nothing.”
Davis is due to make his first ring appearance of 2025 when he defends his world title against Lamont Roach on March 1 at the Barclays Center in New York.
A win against Roach will set up an important rest of the year for ‘Tank’, who will be targeting the biggest fights available to him before he hangs his gloves up.
