Gervonta Davis has spoken out to reveal his top three fighters of all time.
The 30-year-old from Baltimore, Maryland has enjoyed a successful professional career to date, winning 30 of his 31 contests with 28 of those victories coming inside the distance. He has picked up world titles in three weight divisions, defeating the likes of Leo Santa Cruz, Mario Barrios and Ryan Garcia.
Davis is the current holder of the WBA lightweight title, having made five defences of his crown. His most recent title defence came earlier this month in a controversial draw against Lamont Roach at the Barclays Center in New York.
Speaking in an interview with PBC, Davis named his top three greatest fighters of all time, paying homage to the legendary trio and the influence they have had on him and his own career.
“Floyd Mayweather Jr… Sugar Ray Leonard… Pernell Whittaker.”
All three of the aforementioned fighters are legends in their own right, leaving behind legacies that will be remembered for years to come.
‘Tank’ worked with Mayweather in the early stages of his career, before their working relationship ended due to a number of personal and financial issues.
Sugar Ray Leonard is another all-time-great fighter, often remembered for being one of the ‘Four Kings’, which included Roberto Duran, Thomas Hearns and Marvin Hagler.
The late-great Whitaker is one of the greatest defensive fighters in boxing history, with a style that played a huge part in him winning world titles in four weight classes. ‘Sweet Pea’ tragically passed away in 2019 at the age of 55.
