In the opinion of many, Terence Crawford is currently one of the best fighters on the planet.

The 37-year-old has won world titles in four weight divisions, including the undisputed championship at light welterweight and welterweight, which makes him one of the few fighters in boxing history to become undisputed in more than one weight class.

‘Bud’ made the move up to 154lbs in August last year, where he dethroned WBA champion Israil Madrimov in Los Angeles. Victory over Madrimov was the 41st of Crawford’s career, maintaining his perfect unbeaten record in the process.

As negotiations begin to intensify regarding a potential dream fight between the American superstar and Mexican icon Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez, many prominent figures in the sport have shared their thoughts about the possible outcome.

Speaking to FightHub TV, former world champion and Canelo’s ex-promoter Oscar De La Hoya claimed a showdown between the pair would be like a ‘no contest’, citing Crawford’s size as the deciding factor.

“At 154, [Crawford] didn’t really look too dangerous up in the ring, against a beast. So imagine Canelo being the bigger guy, being a beast, it’s almost like a no contest. I mean, come on, when has a smaller good guy ever beaten a good bigger guy. It’s never happened in the history of the sport. It’s rare.”

A fight between the pound-for-pound stars is still yet to be confirmed, but Turki Alalshikh has spoken publicly on more than one occasion about his interest in getting it over the line, with both fighters targeting a return to the ring by Summer 2025.

Mexican bank holiday ‘Cinco De Mayo’ is a potential date for the bout to take place, with Las Vegas or Riyadh emerging as two possible locations.
