Oscar De La Hoya has spoke out and named the two fighters that he feels would serve Jaron ‘Boots’ Ennis his first career losses.
The 27-year-old has emerged as a dominant force at welterweight in recent years, where he now holds the IBF title after he was elevated from interim champion in 2023.
His most recent title defence came in November when he defeated Karen Chukhadzhian over 12-rounds for the second time at the Wells Fargo Center in his hometown of Philadelphia.
Ennis has not impressed everyone though, with promoter and six weight world champion De La Hoya speaking out recently to name two fighters that he believes would get the better of the 27-year-old, who has won all 34 of his professional outings.
On a social media post, ‘The Golden Boy’ stated Terence Crawford and his own fighter, Vergil Ortiz, would ‘destroy’ the welterweight star.
“Please, Terence Crawford and Vergil Ortiz will destroy Boots haha.”
Crawford recently became a four-weight world champion, dethroning WBA light middleweight champion Israil Madrimov in August. ‘Bud’ is now rumoured to be in negotiations with a super fight against Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez, with Turki Alalshikh repotedly working behind the scenes to get a showdown between the pound-for-pound stars finalised for this year.
Ortiz is another top contender, currently reigning as the WBC ‘interim’ light middleweight champion, which he claimed after beating Serhii Bohachuk last year. The hard-hitter from Texas returns to the ring next month to defend his title against Israil Madrimov on the undercard of Artur Beterbiev and Dmitry Bivol’s rematch in Saudi Arabia.
