Oscar De La Hoya Warns Canelo To Not Step Into The Ring Against One Fighter

Oscar De La Hoya has warned Canelo Alvarez to avoid facing one fighter in particular.

Since making his professional debut back in 2005 when he was just 15-years-old, Canelo has gone on to win world title in four weight divisions as well as capturing the undisputed championship at super middleweight.

The 34-year-old from Guadalajara, Mexico currently holds the unified WBC, WBA and WBO titles at 168lbs, but has recently secured himself an opportunity to become undisputed once again as he prepares to face newly-crowned IBF champion William Scull in Riyadh on May 3.

Should he be successful against Scull, the Mexican superstar will then turn his attention to a showdown with fellow pound-for-pound great Terence ‘Bud’ Crawford, after it was revealed at the beginning of the year that the pair would lock horns in a mega-fight this September.

In an interview with Fight Hub TV, De La Hoya urged Canelo to avoid pursuing a fight against undisputed light heavyweight champion Dmitry Bivol, who has actually already beaten the Mexican star.

“There is no way he beats Bivol. There is just no way. Styles make fights. As much as I would want to see a Mexican win inside that ring, there is no way he beats Bivol.”

Bivol became just the second fighter to defeat Canelo when he successfully defended his WBA light heavyweight title against the 34-year-old several years ago. The Russian star put on an impressive display to outclass Canelo over 12-rounds, who was bidding to become a two-time world light heavyweight champion following his victory over Sergey Kovalev three years prior.
