Deontay Wilder is reportedly in discussions for a showdown with an MMA star.

The 39-year-old from Tuscaloosa, Alabama is on the verge of making his return to the sport after suffering consecutive defeats against Joseph Parker and Zhilei Zhang.

Wilder’s is set to face Tyrrell Herndon at the Charles Koch Arena in Wichita on June 27, although ‘The Bronze Bomber’ appears to have even bigger plans for what is undoubtedly the final chapter of his rollercoaster career.

The former WBC world heavyweight champion has been linked with two-time heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua and world title challenger Dillian Whyte in recent months, but one fighter who is also on Wilder’s radar is former UFC heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou, who made the move into professional boxing in 2023 when he suffered a split decision defeat against Tyson Fury.

Speaking to DAZN Boxing, Wilder claimed that a showdown with Ngannou looks set to happen for definite at some stage in the near future, as he welcomes the challenge from one of the biggest punchers in combat sport.

“Me and Francis, that fight still comes up. It came up two more times not too long ago. We’re just trying to figure out how they want the segment to go with me and Ngannou. I’m definitely interested, he is as well. I guess it’s a matter of time.

“Time is always the matter of all things… That’s something that is going to be created and something that is looking to be done. It’s just getting everything together. People can look forward to that. Stay tuned.”

Ngannou is yet to make a return to boxing after he was knocked out by Anthony Joshua in devastating fashion last year, although the 38-year-old is reportedly keen on lacing the gloves up once again should he be presented with the right opportunity.
