Devin Haney is preparing for a return to the ring in the coming months after a turbulent 2024.
The two-weight world champion has not fought since that controversial bout with Ryan Garcia last April, which led to ‘King Ry’ testing positive for the banned substance Ostarine in the weeks following. Garcia was served with a 1-year suspension and a fine of over $1 million.
The 26-year-old from San Francisco, California was made WBC super lightweight ‘Champion In Recess’ last year, after he revealed his intentions to take a break from boxing.
Haney is now gearing up for his return to the sport, which is expected to come within the next couple of months. ‘The Dream’ recently hosted an open workout at the Peacock Gym in London, demonstrating his skills to a number of fans in attendance.
Speaking to Boxing News, ‘The Dream’ revealed that WBO super lightweight champion Teofimo Lopez has turned a considerable offer to fight him next.
“Turki Alalshikh sent Top Rank an offer and it was a good offer, and you know he turned it down for whatever reason.
He turned it down, it was for far more than the offer that he proposed, I mean for the kind of money that Turki offered him. I would have to say that I don’t think he wants to fight me. It made all the sense in the world.”
Lopez is also preparing to make a return to the ring, with an opponent and fight date still unconfirmed. It has also been reported that ‘The Takeover’ turned down an offer to face former IBF super lightweight champion Subriel Matias, after it was initially revealed they were close to agreeing a deal.
