Devin Haney is preparing to make his return to the ring after taking a brief hiatus from the sport last year.
The 26-year-old from California is still undefeated as a professional, after his defeat to Ryan Garcia last year was later ruled as a no-contest when it was revealed ‘King Ry’ had tested positive for Ostarine in a post-fight drugs test.
Haney made a request to the WBC to be given ‘Champion In Recess’ status after his showdown with Garcia, which was approved shortly after. The two-weight world champion revealed he wanted to take a break from boxing after the events that unfolded following his latest outing.
‘The Dream’ has recently revealed his plans to return to boxing which could come as early as March, as he sets his sights on being matched up with one fighter in particular.
Speaking to Fight Hub TV, Haney claimed a rematch against Garcia is his priority as he looks to bounce back from what he experienced in their first contest.
“That’s a priority for me. There’s a lot of unfinished business in that fight, so that’s a fight that I think that has to happen sooner or later.
I’m happy that he wants to make that fight happen [and] he wants to see that fight. “
‘The Dream’ then commented on the backlash he has received on social media in the months that followed his bout with Garcia.
“I take the good with the bad at the end of the day. If they talking good, they talking bad, it just matters that they talking.
My concern is when they’re not talking, when they silent, when they’re not saying nothing so I’ll let them talk.”
Haney also revealed earlier in the week that WBO super lightweight champion Teofimo Lopez had turned down an offer to face him next, which was made by Riyadh Season’s Turki Alalshikh.
