Rumours of a potential mega fight between Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez and Terence Crawford have swept through the world of boxing in recent months.

The pound-for-pound stars have secured their places in boxing history over the last couple of years, with both men achieving undisputed status at super middleweight and welterweight respectively.

Crawford, who currently holds the WBA light middleweight title, has also been an undisputed champion at light welterweight, defeating Julius Indongo in August 2017.

For Canelo, he is the reigning WBA, WBO and WBC super middleweight champion, with his most recent defence coming in September when he outpointed the previously undefeated Edgar Berlanga Jr.

As rumours of a fight between the pair begin to ramp up, one man who is familiar with both fighters has weighed in on the clash and whether he thinks the pair will actually meet in 2025.

Promoter Eddie Hearn, who has previously promoted the Mexican icon, spoke to iFL TV where he simply said ‘no’ when asked if he thinks the fight will now happen but suggested a clash against Jaron Ennis will happen at some point.

“No [I don’t think Canelo will fight Crawford].

Firstly, I don’t think Terence will duck anyone, so I think he likes the ‘Boots’ fight, but he also knows ‘Boots’ is a good fighter and he knows that fight could become much bigger.

But I just don’t see Canelo fighting Crawford.”

It is unclear whether a bout between the boxing superstars will actually be made, but Turki Alalshikh has reiterated his desire on more than one occasion to get the fight over the line, with news expected to come in the early stages of 2025.
