Errol Spence Had No Doubt When Asked If Terence Crawford Has Any Chance Of Beating Canelo

Terence Crawford and Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez are rumoured to be negotiating a mega fight for 2025.

The pound for pound stars are both gearing up for their respective returns to the ring, which could end up being a massive clash against each other.

Turki Alalshikh has confirmed an approach has been made to both fighters’ camps to stage the fight in the new year, with the beginning of May looking likely for a showdown between the pair,

Crawford recently won a world title in a fourth weight division, after dethroning WBA light middleweight champion Israil Madrimov in August. Many prominent figures in the sport feel that the considerable jump in weight that ‘Bud’ would have to make if he is to face Canelo will be a step too far.

Errol Spence Jr, who was defeated by the 37-year-old in their undisputed welterweight title showdown in July last year, believes that Crawford would prevail in a fight against the Mexican icon.

“It could happen, I mean why not? If Crawford wants to challenge himself to be great then let him try to be great you know, so I’m with it.

I’ll be going for ‘Bud’ if he fights Canelo, I’ll be going for him. I don’t know if he’s going to win or lose but I’ll definitely be going for Crawford. I think if anybody can pull it off he can pull it off.

He’s chasing greatness so why not? Canelo went up to 175 and fought Kovalev and fought the other guy [Bivol] too, so if he can do it, and he started at 147, so if he doing that why can’t Crawford do it.”

Spence Jr, who lost his WBC, WBA and IBF titles to Crawford that night, is expected to make a return to the ring next year, with a move up to 154lbs the expected route for ‘The Truth’.
