Tyson Fury has had his say on who he believes should be Oleksandr Usyk’s next opponent.
The 36-year-old from Morecambe suffered back-to-back defeats to the Ukrainian superstar last year, failing to become the first ever British undisputed heavyweight champion of the ‘four belt era’.
‘The Gypsy King’ announced his retirement from boxing at the beginning of the year, despite there being numerous calls for the former unified heavyweight champion to face domestic rival Anthony Joshua in a monumental showdown for British boxing.
Speaking on his Instagram page, Fury made his feelings clear about seeing Usyk giving former WBO heavyweight champion Joseph Parker a shot at his WBC, WBA and WBO titles, instead of pursuing a potential undisputed showdown with IBF champion Daniel Dubois.
“About time as well. Give Joseph Parker his shot!”
Parker is arguably the most in-form heavyweight on the planet right now, with his last three victories coming against Deontay Wilder, Zhilei Zhang and Martin Bakole respectively.
The 33-year-old from Aucklandm New Zealand was due to face IBF heavyweight champion Daniel Dubois in Riyadh on February 22, before the hard-hitting Brit was forced to withdraw from the contest after he was struck down with an illness during fight week.
Parker has now staked his claim for another shot at a world heavyweight title, although it appears that Usyk and Dubois are on the verge of finalising a deal to face each other for the undisputed heavyweight champion at Wembley Stadium in July, although an official announcement is yet to be made.
