Ryan Garcia appears to have agreed on a rematch with Gervonta Davis under one condition.

The 26-year-old from California faced the reigning WBA lightweight champion in a non-title showdown back in April 2023 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

After what was a positive start for ‘King Ry’, Davis began to apply pressure in the mid-rounds to eventually stop him with a crushing body shot in round 7, handing Garcia the first defeat of his professional career.

Despite the fight ending in the way that it did, many fans and pundits have called for a rematch between the pair ever since, and it appears that both fighters remain keen on facing each other for a second time in the near future.

Speaking on Ring Champs with Ak & Barak, Garcia admitted his interest in a rematch with ‘Tank’, but claimed it can only happen if the 30-year-old from Baltimore agrees to move up to welterweight.

“I know I can do way better and I know I can beat him. This is boxing bro, this is what we gotta do [go up weight divisions]. You know Roberto Duran went up like 8, 9 or I don’t know how many weight classes.

“But we could do it, like I feel like we could do it, I feel like all of us could do it, we all got the skills we all could beat these guys. A lot of the guys in the bigger division ain’t even that good in my opinion.”garc

Gervonta Davis commented on a rematch last year, agreeing that it is a ‘massive match’ before suggesting a 140lbs weight limit.

‘King Ry’ makes his highly anticipated return to the ring on May 2 when he clashes with Rolando ‘Rolly’ Romero in boxing’s first ever card at Times Square in New York. It will be Garcia’s first outing since he tested positive for a banned substance in the build-up to his fight with Devin Haney last April.
