Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk are set to lock horns once again on December 21 in Riyadh.
After their incredible first meeting in May, which went in favour of Ukrainian superstar Oleksandr Usyk, the duo have been gearing up for their highly anticipated rematch, having now finished their respective training camps.
In a fight which looked to have slipped through the fingers of Tyson Fury the first time around, the ‘Gypsy King’ has been working hard behind the scenes, in order to give him the best chance of avenging his first career defeat at the hands of Usyk.
Before that thrilling first encounter in May, heavyweight legend George Foreman had spoke to Boxing Scene and shared his predicted outcome.
“Tyson Fury has met his match. All Usyk has to do is, if he’s smart enough to win the first round, then the second round. OK, maybe you can give up the fourth round, but then go back up and win another round.
It gets to where he’s not worried about anything other than winning it on points. He’s a solid fighter. He can take a punch. So unless the judges are the best judges money can buy, Usyk should win.”
And as the first fight unfolded, very much in the way that ‘Big George’ predicted it to, he was asked to comment on whether a rematch between the pair would be any different – and he believes Fury can write the wrongs of the first encounter.
“Sure, because Fury will know then that now he can lose. It makes for a different fight. How you train, how you get into shape. Go back to the way Fury fought Klitschko in 2015.
He fought Klitschko to a stand-still. And that’s the way you’ve got to fight Usyk.
This is an exciting match. I, of course, pull for Tyson Fury because he’s been so special for boxing. I’m a fan. But I’m not letting that sway me here. I’d like to see him stick around and win a few more fights.”
Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk meet for the second time next Saturday night at the Kingdom Arena.
