Gervonta Davis still stands as one of the highest rated fighters on the planet.
The 30-year-old is unbeaten through all 30 of his professional contests, picking up 28 knockout victories along the way in a career that began eleven years ago.
‘Tank’ is the reigning WBA lightweight champion, with his most recent defence coming in June when he knocked out Frank Martin in the eighth round of their contest at the MGM Grand Arena in Las Vegas.
Davis is now set to return to the ring on March 1 2025 against Lamont Roach at the Barclays Center in New York. Roach has suffered just one career defeat, which came at the hands of former WBO super featherweight champion Jamel Herring in 2019.
The 30-year-old from Baltimore has picked up an array of solid wins throughout his career, including Leo Santa Cruz, Ryan Garcia and Yuriorkis Gamboa to name a few. However, many feel that Davis is yet to be really tested as a professional, prompting rumours of a potential fight against Shakur Stevenson, which could be a very intriguing clash of styles.
In an interview with Boxing News, ‘Tank’ has named the one fighter who he feels would give him his toughest test.
“Mayweather.”
Floyd Mayweather has not fought in a professional capacity for seven years, since stopping MMA legend Conor McGregor in the tenth round of their showdown.
Davis and Mayweather are all too familiar with each other, with both men reportedly not on the best of terms after their promotional split in 2022.
