Gervonta Davis and Ryan Garcia are rumoured to be edging closer towards a second encounter in the near future.
The pair met for the first time in April 2023 when Davis dropped Garcia twice en route to a seventh round stoppage victory at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
It was another exceptional performance from ‘Tank’ who remains undefeated through 30 professional contests, picking up no less than 28 stoppages along the way.
The career of Garcia since that defeat to Davis has been surrounded by controversy, after he tested positive for the banned substance Ostarine following a career best victory over WBC super lightweight champion Devin Haney, in which ‘King Ry’ knocked his man down three times on route to a decision win. The result has since been overturned to a no-contest.
Despite Garcia’s positive test and his current career situation, Davis has opened the door for a potential rematch but has made one demand that must be adhered to if a second fight between the pair can be agreed.
Speaking to ESNEWS, the 30-year old claimed he would only face Garcia again if the weight limit is set at 140 lbs rather than a 143-144lb catchweight which Garcia has asked for.
“Yeah, it’s [a massive rematch]. Not at 143, why 143? Probably 140.
That’s the weight class that he fights at, so let’s [do it at] 140 and he can hydrate back up to 150 or at most 152 or something like that.”
Current WBA lightweight champion Davis is set to return to the ring on March 1 2025 against Lamont Roach, with Garcia currently serving a 1 year suspension for the aforementioned failed test. The suspension is due to end in April 2025.
