Former Heavyweight Champion Confirms Comeback After 8 Year Break And Wants Deontay Wilder Fight

Deontay Wilder looks set to continue his boxing career after suffering two successive defeats.

The former long-reigning WBC heavyweight champion is coming off back-to-back losses to Joseph Parker and Zhilei Zhang, with many predicting ‘The Bronze Bomber’ would walk away from the sport following these setbacks.

However, Wilder is gearing up for a return to the ring in 2025, and has been targeted by a number of heavyweights who are all keen on facing the hard hitting 39-year-old from Alabama.

One man who has opened the door for a showdown with Wilder is former world heavyweight champion Shannon Briggs, who has not fought for almost 9 years. ‘The Cannon’ is known for defeating heavyweight legend George Foreman back in 1997, which would end up being ‘Big’ George’s final professional contest before retirement.

Speaking to FightHub TV, Briggs issued a challenge to ‘The Bronze Bomber’, claiming a showdown between the pair would be ‘great’.

“I’d like to fight him, I think it would be a great fight in Alabama when he comes back.

I haven’t really retired, they just won’t fight me. I’m going to fight in March so if he wants to go, we go.”

The 53-year-old has spoken on multiple occasions in recent months about making a comeback, and has even discussed a potential bout with Jake Paul, who defeated Mike Tyson in Texas a few months ago.

Wilder confirmed recently that he intends to fight on, with his return expected to be announced very soon. Former two-time heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua has also emerged as a possible opponent for the 39-year-old, although Joshua is expected to face Tyson Fury instead.
