Heavyweight legend Mike Tyson made a sensational return to boxing last month when he was defeated by Jake Paul.
The 58-year-old’s clash the YouTube star turned professional fighter was the subject of intense controversy, with many people in disbelief that the fight was allowed to go ahead and be officially sanctioned by a governing body.
Many former and active boxers have expressed their anger and disappointment at the contest taking place, with a number of them even putting themselves forward to face ‘The Problem Child’.
One man who has revealed his interest in a fight with the 27-year-old is former world heavyweight champion Shannon Briggs, who spoke on Instagram recently where he claimed he feels somewhat responsible for Paul’s rise as a professional fighter after playing a part in the Paul brothers’ introduction to the sport.
“I feel responsible. That’s why Mike was mad at me when we did the slap boxing thing, he was like ‘you trained Jake and Logan Paul.’ And I didn’t understand at first, but YouTube boxing… I feel responsible. I started it, not I gotta end it. I gotta hurt one of them. All of them.”
Briggs’ last outing came in 2016 when he knocked out Emilio Zarate in the opening round of their clash in London. During his 68 fight career he boasts a record 37 first round knockouts.
The 53-year-old has also been chasing a fight with former unified world heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko for some time, with ‘The Cannon’ publicly goading the Ukrainian icon multiple times in recent years.
It is unclear if Briggs will re-enter the sport at any point in the future, but a clash with Paul remains on his radar as he looks to avenge ‘Iron’ Mike’s defeat at the hands of the 27-year-old.
