In what should be a highly competitive fight, “Hammerin” Hank Lundy (25-4-1, 12 KOs) will face Mauricio “El Maestro” Herrera (21-5 7 KOs) on July 11 for the NABF Super Lightweight Championship.

Both fighters are in what could be called desperate territory.

Lundy, having dropped his last bout to Thomas Dulorme by decision, and Herrera, losing a controversial decision to Jose Benavidez, are both in need of a victory.

Also, the winner of this bout could potentially be in line for a big money fight with one of the division’s top fighters.

The loser will be considered not ready for prime time and it could possibly be the end of the road for him. If Hank Lundy is to secure a win, the following three keys will be crucial on the road to the victory.

1. Start Fast

Hank Lundy is a notorious slow starter.

If Lundy is indeed looking to win this fight in impressive fashion, he cannot give away the early rounds as he did against Thomas Dulorme.

Lundy will not be favored fighting in Southern California, and Mauricio Herrera is a good enough boxer that he will score enough points early enough to build a lead on the judges scorecards.

2. Master the Sweet Science

Hank Lundy is actually a pretty good boxer when he puts his mind to the task. He has quick hands and is a pretty accurate puncher.

Mauricio Herrera will be in front of him all night to be hit. The jabs and combinations will be there all night for him to land.

What Lundy cannot do is stand in front of Herrera and trade. Herrera is a adequate enough puncher to do some damage when given the chance.

He must hit and not get hit, using his lateral mobility and quick hands to frustrate Herrera.

3.Control The Pace

Notorious for his below average stamina, Hank Lundy cannot run out of gas. He is the younger, faster man in this matchup. That can be a gift and a curse.

Lundy has been known to showboat and become a reckless fighter. He cannot afford to lose focus and wear himself out.

Mauricio Herrera gave Danny Garcia problems with his boxing ability on the inside and will look do to the same with Lundy.

Controlling the pace by effective boxing and fighting under control will allow him to maximize some of his physical advantages.
