Talk about the recent fight between Mike Tyson and Jake Paul refuses to go away.
Tyson, at the age of 58, was making his return to professional boxing for the first time in nearly twenty years. He was taking on a man over 30 years his junior in Jake Paul.
Many fans were hoping ‘Iron Mike’ could turn back the clock and produce some of the fearsome pressure and power that once made him ‘The Baddest Man on the Planet’. However, the former undisputed heavyweight champion looked every bit his 58 years of age. After a lively first round Tyson started to feel the pace and offered very little offensively, whilst Paul took his time and picked his shots and admitted after that he didn’t go full out as to not hurt his opponent.
The YouTuber-turned-boxer won by a wide decision on the scorecards.
During the contest one of the most talked about aspects was why Tyson was continuously biting down on his gloves, even the commentary team disagreed on the reason. In his post fight press conference Tyson simply jokes that he has a ‘biting fixation’, however one former opponent say he knows the real reason.
Evander Holyfield, who famously fought Tyson twice, winning one by stoppage and the other fight by disqualification when he had his ear bitten by his opponent.
Speaking on his YouTube channel, ‘The Real Deal’ said the actual reason for the biting of his gloves was down to nerves.
“Once he starts biting on his gloves this is when he gets nervous. When he gets nervous he bites on the gloves, he can’t figure it out.”
Although many now hope Tyson will retire for good, Paul is on the search for his next opponent with Artur Beterbiev and Daniel Dubois even calling him out.
