Boxing fans appear to have missed out on a fight between Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua, after ‘The Gypsy King’ announced his retirement earlier this year.
The 36-year-old from Morecambe, England missed out on his opportunity to dethrone unified heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk for the second time in December, which led to speculation that he could draw the curtain on his accomplished career.
This proved to be the case, after Fury made the announcement that he would be retiring from boxing with immediate effect in January, effectively putting rumours of a fight against ‘AJ’ to bed.
Joshua also found himself having to make an important decision on his future after suffering a devastating knockout defeat to IBF heavyweight champion Daniel Dubois last September. The 35-year-old was dropped four times before he was counted out by the referee after a thunderous right hand from Dubois landed.
Speaking to Fight Hub TV, legendary heavyweight Evander Holyfield was asked to predict what would have happened in a bout between Fury and ‘AJ’, to which he said this.
“That definitely would be a good fight. Both of the guys fight pretty much the same, but I think Tyson Fury, he’s the type of guy that can make adjustments with him, I think he can out think him.”
Despite the announcement that Fury made, many feel he could make a U-turn on the decision after Riyadh Season’s Turki Alalshikh claimed he would be reaching out to the Brit in the near future to discuss the situation and whether ‘The Gypsy King’ could be tempted to lace the gloves up one more time.
