Lennox Lewis has had his say on whether Tyson Fury should retire from boxing after suffering successive defeats.
The 36-year-old faced Oleksandr Usyk in their highly anticipated rematch last month, after the Ukrainian superstar was victorious in their initial showdown last May.
After another cagey 12-rounds between both fighters, it was Usyk who prevailed once again with a unanimous decision win over ‘The Gypsy King’, retaining his WBC, WBA and WBO heavyweight titles in Riyadh.
In the weeks following Fury’s second career defeat, many prominent figures in boxing have spoken out to address claims that the Brit should now consider walking away from the sport.
Speaking to TNT Sports, the former undisputed heavyweight champion Lewis claimed he would like to see the 36-year-old continue his career, as he suggests a potential opponent for Fury.
“He goes to London. The biggest fight in history. Maybe Anthony Joshua.”
Joshua has been linked with an all-British heavyweight battle with ‘The Gypsy King’ for many years, but with both men coming off defeats, a bout between them could be closer to happening than ever before.
The 35-year-old two-time heavyweight champion suffered a shock fifth round knockout loss to IBF heavyweight champion Daniel Dubois in September, with ‘AJ’ now going through a re-build of his own. His promoter Eddie Hearn spoke recently to confirm his fighter is targeting at least two fights in 2025.
Many fans and pundits have called for Fury and Joshua to finally meet in the ring, urging the British heavyweight stars to clash at Wembley Stadium in what could still be the biggest fight in British boxing history.
