Boxing legend Floyd Mayweather Jr has revealed who he believes is the best fighter on the planet.
The 48-year-old from Grand Rapids, Michigan had one of the most glittering careers in boxing history, where he won world titles across five weight classes and remained unbeaten through all 50 of his professional outings.
He won world titles from super featherweight up to light middleweight, defeating a number of top fighters during this time including the likes of Oscar De La Hoya, Manny Pacquiao and Canelo Alvarez to name a few. He finally announced his retirement from the sport back in 2017, not long after he defeated MMA legend Conor McGregor in August of that year.
After being out of the ring in a professional capacity for 8-years now, ‘Money’ Mayweather has kept tabs on many of the sport’s biggest names and best fighters since then, with one of those being countryman Terence ‘Bud’ Crawford.
Speaking to Brian Mazique, the 38-year-old spoke out and named ‘Bud’ as the fighter that stands out from the rest, revealing him as the best fighter on the planet pound-for-pound in his opinion.
“I think Terence Crawford right now in the sport of boxing is the pound-for-pound best fighter, it’s good to see him in the position that he’s in.”
Since entering the professional ranks in 2008, Crawford’s rise to superstardom has been nothing short of incredible. The 37-year-old from Omaha has won world titles across four weight divisions so far, as well as the undisputed championship at super lightweight and welterweight respectively.
‘Bud’ is now gearing up to face fellow pound-for-pound great Canelo Alvarez, setting his sights on becoming a five-division world champion in what is undoubtedly the toughest test of his tenure.
