Heavyweight legend Mike Tyson made a sensational return to the ring a few months ago when he faced Jake Paul in Texas.
The former world heavyweight champion had not fought as a professional since June 2005 when he suffered a 6th-round knockout defeat to Kevin McBride in Washington, D.C.
Despite lasting the duration of the 8-round showdown against Paul, the 58-year-old left the ring visibly exhausted. The pace and tempo of the contest seemed to be too difficult for Tyson to deal with, as ‘The Problem Child’ got the nod on all three of the judges scorecards.
There were a number of concerns for Tyson’s physical and mental health in the weeks following the contest, with many feeling he was making a big mistake by fighting a man over 30-years his junior.
Speaking to FOX Sports Radio, ‘Iron’ Mike opened up about his feelings since his ring return, claiming he felt ‘depressed’ following conclusion of the fight.
“That fight was such a big ascent — we were so up and high, we were so excited. The fight’s over, boom. Wow, I’m kind of depressed a little bit. We got to get back [into] our living situation [daily life], back to living. [We were] training for it 9 months.”
The 58-year-old then opened up on the serious health scare he had in the build-up to his showdown with the YouTube star.
“I almost died in June. Had 8 blood transfusions. Lost half my blood and 25lbs in hospital and had to fight to get healthy to fight so I won.”
‘Iron’ Mike has recently announced he will be going back into retirement from boxing, after initially revealing his plans to fight once again.
