A former opponent of Mike Tyson has paid homage to the heavyweight legends exceptional power.
‘Iron’ Mike is often credited with being one of the greatest heavyweights in boxing history, with his outstanding professional career beginning when he was just 18-years-old.
After racking up 27 consecutive victories, Tyson defeated Trevor Berbick via second stoppage to capture the WBC heavyweight title and become the youngest heavyweight champion in history, an incredible record which still stands today.
Victories over WBA champion James Smith and IBF champion Tony Tucker saw ‘Iron’ Mike become the undisputed heavyweight champion in the years that followed, before he was eventually defeated by Buster Douglas in what is still regarded as one of the biggest upsets in boxing history back in 1990.
Another fighter who prevailed against the retired American icon is Irishman Kevin McBridge, who got the better of Tyson when they fought back in 2005.
In an interview with Bloody Elbow, McBridge made no mistake in praising Tyson for his thunderous punching power, which he claims he still feels almost 20-years since they locked horns.
“Mike Tyson’s power is unbelievable. I still feel it to this day, more than 19 years later.
“He hits so hard and power is the last thing to go. George Foreman proved that against Michael Moorer. Sure he was a bit younger than Mike is now but power-wise it is one of the biggest punches in history.”
Having not fought since he was beaten by McBridge, Tyson made a sensational return to professional boxing when he faced Jake Paul in November, although he suffered a unanimous decision defeat to the former YouTube sensation at the AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.
