Boxing legend Mike Tyson made a controversial return to the sport against Jake Paul last month.
The former undisputed heavyweight champion locked horns with the YouTube sensation at the AT&T Stadium on November 15, which was ‘Iron’ Mike’s first sanctioned professional contest since he suffered a stoppage loss to Kevin McBride in June 2005.
In the hours following the controversial showdown, it was heavily speculated by fans and some within the sport that the fight was rigged, with both Tyson and Paul appearing to be reluctant to throw certain shots throughout the contest, fuelling rumours that the outcome was decided before the first bell was rung.
The son of the heavyweight icon, Amir, spoke to Seconds Out and shared his response to these rumours and ruled out any foul play from both fighters.
“Some people are on that bogus ‘oh, it’s rigged’… we know it wasn’t rigged. He just got tired. Jake would move out the way. It looked like he pulled his punches back but Jake’s moving. It’s not like the pads, he’s moving.
When someone doesn’t want to accept that someone lost, when it doesn’t go that way of course they’re gonna pull that. And that’s what they’re putting on the internet. His gas tank after the third round was just shot. That’s all it was. He just kept on staying throughout. He did his best. No holding back, he did the best he could at his age.”
After Tyson initially confirmed his intention to fight on, he has since reversed his decision and it is expected that the 58 year old will now move back into retirement from the sport.
