A highly-rated MMA star has revealed details of a potential crossover fight against world heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk.
The Ukrainian superstar currently reigns as the unified WBC, WBA and WBO world heavyweight champion, having cemented his place as the greatest heavyweight fighter of his generation when he defeated Tyson Fury in their rematch last December.
Usyk became boxing’s first ever undisputed heavyweight champion within the ‘four belt era’ when he outpointed ‘The Gypsy King’ in their first encounter almost one year ago, going on to repeat that feat when they locked horns once again on December 21 in Riyadh.
As he prepares for his next move, the 38-year-old from Ukraine discussed a potential crossover showdown with MMA star and former UFC world champion Alex Pereira.
“Maybe show fight with Alex Pereira, maybe, why not. Alex wanna [do it?]”
Pereira has since responded to the claims made by Usyk, with the 37-year-old from Brazil welcoming a showdown with the greatest heavyweight that this generation has ever seen.
“When I saw it I jumped with joy. Who knows, in September, in Saudi Arabia.”
While the chances of Usyk and Pereira locking horns at any point in the near future remain very slim, it would be a very intriguing bout to say the least.
Another option for the Ukrainian icon is former opponent and reigning IBF heavyweight champion Daniel Dubois, who has recently confirmed his interest in facing Usyk once again in what would be an opportunity to avenge the defeat he suffered two years ago, as well as becoming the undisputed heavyweight champion.
